   The Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute was established on July 16, 1937, by order No. 155 of the People's Commissariat of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This event became the basis for training pharmaceutical specialists not only in Uzbekistan, but also in some Central Asian countries. A program for the structure of higher pharmaceutical education and the training of pharmacists has been prepared. Since 1937, E.U. Shurpe, P.F. Arkhangelsky, and A.S. Valinsky have served as directors. Currently, more than 3,500 students study at the institute.

   A Scientific Center for Standardization of Medicines has been established, equipped with modern unique equipment, the main focus of which is quality control of medicines, their standardization, the study of specific pharmacological properties, preclinical studies, and the development of regulatory and technical documentation for the registration of medicines in the territory of Uzbekistan. In a short period of time, about 10 drugs were introduced into production.

  During this time, faculties of industrial pharmacy and advanced training of pharmacists, vocational education, biotechnology, clinical pharmacy and cosmetics were opened at the institute.

Currently, the institute has the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Pharmacy;
  • The Faculty of Industrial Pharmacy;
  • Faculty of advanced training and retraining of pharmacists;
  • Faculty of International and Joint Education.

   The institute successfully prepares scientific and pedagogical personnel through master's and doctoral studies, and a scientific council for the defense of PhD and doctoral dissertations has been established.

Since 1992, the Institute has been regularly publishing the "Pharmaceutical Journal," which has become a mirror of pharmaceutical science and practice in our republic. The journal's website https://farjur.uz (Archived 2022-12-03 at the Wayback Machine) [1] has been created.

   Today, the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most dynamically developing sectors in our country. The institute annually supplies more than 300 personnel to the national economy for the development of the pharmaceutical industry. Four faculties of the institute are training personnel at the bachelor's and master's levels. The Institute trains personnel in 11 specialties at the Faculties of Pharmacy, Joint Faculty, Industrial Pharmacy, and Advanced Training and Retraining of Pharmacists.

  At the same time, a "Book-café," a "Language Center," a "Training Practice Complex" and a new sports venue for students will operate on the territory of the institute. The Institute trains specialists in the following areas:

  • Pharmacy (by type);
  • Professional education (pharmacy);
  • Industrial pharmacy (by type);
  • Biotechnology (pharmaceutical biotechnology);
  • Metrology, standardization and product quality management (in the field of pharmaceuticals).

   There are two student dormitories (SSH) on the territory of the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, which were built in 1969 and 1977. On October 26, 2019, student dormitory No. 1 was renovated and handed over to students for use. The student dormitories No. 1 and No. 2 of the institute consist of 4 floors, each of which has all the amenities.  The total capacity of student dormitories is designed for 670 students. The number of students studying at the institute from abroad and neighboring republics is 42, most of whom live in student dormitories. Rooms have also been allocated from student dormitories for foreign students who have arrived within the framework of academic exchange programs.

  The institute cooperates with universities and organizations of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Pakistan, India, China in a special project on reforming pharmaceutical education for Central Asian countries with the Euro Office of the World Health Organization.

  The pride of the institute is dedicated people like Tulyaganov Rustam Tursunovich Urmanova Flyura Faridovna, who graduated from this university.
