Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature

Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. The university works to strengthen the standing of the Uzbek language in the country and internationally, to promote Uzbek literature, folklore and national values, and to implement state policy in these areas. It trains highly qualified specialists who study in depth the spirituality, history, culture and philosophy of the Uzbek people.

History

The university's roots go back to 1918, when the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy was opened at the Central Asian State University. In 1935 the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute was founded, where the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature was formed. In 1956 the Central Asian State University was renamed Tashkent State University. In 1998 the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute was granted university status, and the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature was reorganized. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 13 May 2016, the university was established on the basis of the Uzbek Philology Faculty of the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan and the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature of the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University.

Faculties and Programs

The university has 17 departments and 4 faculties: Uzbek Philology; Translation Theory and Practice; Mother Tongue and Literature Education; Uzbek Language Education. At bachelor's and master's levels, specialists are trained in philology, translation studies, folklore studies, literary studies, computational linguistics, publishing and other fields.
