What Is Taught

Students of this programme study the French language in depth and develop the skills to translate accurately, correctly and stylistically appropriately between French and their native language. The curriculum begins with practical French grammar, vocabulary and styles of speech. Later stages cover translation theory, written and oral translation methods, text analysis and the basics of terminology.

Core subjects include comparative analysis of bilingual texts, translation of scientific, legal, economic and literary texts, and exercises in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Students also learn to work with computer-assisted translation tools and electronic dictionaries. At the same time, they develop comparative skills with Uzbek and Russian or English, academic writing and research skills.

What Graduates Become

Graduates can work as translators, consecutive and simultaneous interpreters, translation editors, proofreaders or terminologists. They may also teach French, work as international relations specialists or join the translation department of an organisation. The skills gained allow graduates to undertake independent translation work.
