Uzbek Language and Literature

What is taught in this program

Students of Uzbek Language and Literature study in depth the sound system of the Uzbek language, word formation, lexicology, grammar and syntax. They also gain broad knowledge of the history of Uzbek literature, oral folk art, literary criticism and literary theory.

The program develops the following skills:

• analysing and interpreting texts;
• writing clear and correct artistic and academic texts;
• expressive reading of poetry and prose;
• explaining language and literature clearly to learners.

Pedagogy, psychology, a foreign language and information technology are also taught. Practical training is held in schools, helping students gain professional experience.

What graduates become

Graduates are mainly prepared to work as teachers. They may take positions such as:

• teacher of Uzbek language and literature;
• teacher at an academic lyceum or vocational college;
• methodologist or educator in an educational institution;
• researcher, translator or editor.

Students with a strong interest in research can continue to master's and doctoral studies and become researchers in linguistics or literary studies.
