The Agrochemistry and Soil Science programme covers the composition, properties and fertility of soils, plant nutrition, and the use of mineral and organic fertilisers in agriculture. Core subjects include general and soil chemistry, soil science, agrochemistry, plant physiology, botany, ecology, soil microbiology, analytical chemistry and statistics.
Students learn to analyse soil and plant samples in laboratories, calculate fertiliser rates, carry out field experiments and process the results. They are also trained to use computer software for data analysis and report preparation.
Graduates can work as agrochemists, soil scientists, laboratory specialists or agronomists specialising in soil. They take part in assessing soil fertility, drafting fertilisation plans and giving recommendations on soil protection.
