What is taught in this field

Archaeology studies the life, economy and culture of people in periods when written sources are scarce or absent, using material remains such as ancient settlements, burials, tools, weapons, pottery and coins. Students take general courses on historical periods and also study the ancient and medieval archaeology of the territory of Uzbekistan.

Core subjects include archaeological excavation techniques, stratigraphy, recording of layers, classification and analysis of finds, dating methods, numismatics and epigraphy. Students also study the basics of anthropology, history, ethnography and historical geography. Practical classes develop skills in field expeditions, technical drawing, photographic recording and digital documentation.

What graduates become

Graduates can work as archaeologists, research staff, expedition specialists, museum collection staff, experts in historical and cultural heritage, or professional guides. Some areas, such as restoration and conservation or heritage site management, require additional training.

In Uzbekistan, graduates can work in research institutes, higher education institutions, museums, and state organizations that manage cultural heritage and protected sites. Archaeological expertise is needed in construction and land development projects, and tourism companies and cultural education projects also employ specialists. International expeditions and scientific cooperation programs are also open opportunities.
