What is taught in this field

In the program Design: national costume, students study in depth the shape, colour and decorative art of traditional Uzbek clothing. Core subjects include drawing and composition, national patterns and ornaments, work with fabrics, garment construction and sewing technology, modern computer graphics and clothing modelling.

Students learn not only to create beautiful items but also to understand the historical meaning of each pattern and garment. In practical classes they go through the whole process themselves, from a sketch to a finished sample.

Who will the graduate become

The graduate becomes a national costume designer. They can develop collections, prepare product sketches and supervise the sewing process in fashion houses, garment enterprises and creative studios. Positions such as fashion designer, chief designer or collection head are also possible.

Where can you work

In Uzbekistan, specialists in this field can find work at light industry and garment enterprises, weaving and dyeing factories, national and contemporary clothing brands, design studios, theatres and cultural institutions. Opening your own business is also an option. In addition, you can teach at educational institutions or lead a workshop, and cooperate with craft centres and folk masters.
