What is taught in this field

In the hydropower engineering program, students learn the principles of generating electricity from water energy, as well as the design, construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants. Core subjects include mathematics, physics, theoretical mechanics, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, hydrology, hydraulic structures, hydraulic turbines and pumping units, electrical machines and the fundamentals of power engineering. Students also develop skills in automation, control systems and design software.

Who the graduate becomes

Graduates are trained as hydropower engineers. They can work as hydroelectric power plant engineers, operation specialists, designers of hydraulic structures, construction supervisors, power plant dispatchers, or water resources management specialists. With experience, they can advance to positions such as department head, chief engineer or project manager.
