What is studied in this field

Hydrogeology examines the origin, movement, quality and reserves of groundwater. Engineering geology analyzes the properties of soils and rocks, ground conditions for buildings, roads and hydrotechnical structures, and geological hazards. Students study the basics of geology, mineralogy, hydrogeology, soil mechanics, geophysical methods, hydrochemistry, cartography and geographic information systems (GIS). Mathematics, physics and chemistry form an important foundation of the specialty. Through field practice, students learn to take samples, work with wells and carry out field investigations. This programme is taught at Nukus State Technical University and Tashkent State Technical University.
