What is taught in this field

In the Cartography and Remote Sensing programme, students learn methods for accurately representing, measuring and analysing the Earth's surface and the objects on it. Core subjects include higher geodesy, geodetic measurements, photogrammetry, map making and design, processing of space images, geographic information systems (GIS) and digital cartography.

In practical classes, students learn to create maps using computer software, interpret satellite and aerial images, build databases and present analysis results in visual form. These skills are useful for monitoring natural resources, urban planning and assessing the condition of crops.

Who will graduates become

Graduates can work as geodesists, cartographers, GIS specialists, remote sensing analysts or engineers on mapping projects. Typical positions include cadastre engineer, geographic information systems specialist, map compiler and researcher who analyses data.

Where can you work

In Uzbekistan, graduates may find employment in land resources and cadastre organisations, geodetic and cartographic services, agricultural and water management agencies, urban construction and architectural design institutes, ecology and nature protection systems, and private companies working with geoinformation technologies. There is also an opportunity to pursue academic work in research institutes and higher education institutions.

The use of geospatial data is expanding across various areas of state and private projects. Qualified specialists are particularly needed for land monitoring, observation of agricultural crops and infrastructure projects.

Who this suits

This programme suits applicants who enjoy exact sciences, mathematics and computer technologies, and who are interested in maps and spatial thinking. Attentiveness, patience, a drive for accuracy and the ability to work in a team are important. Since much of the work involves field research, it is especially appealing to those who enjoy working outdoors.

If you want to study the Earth and the processes taking place on it through maps and satellite images, this field can open new opportunities for you.
