What is taught in this field

Typhlopedagogy studies the theory and practice of teaching, upbringing and social adaptation of children and adults with visual impairments or complete loss of sight. Alongside the basics of pedagogy, psychology and special education, students learn about the physiology of vision, the structure of the eye and the types of visual impairment.

Core subjects include typhlopsychology, Braille and methods of teaching it, the basics of orientation and mobility, and special approaches to working with children with visual impairments. Students also develop skills in using assistive technologies and computer tools for people with disabilities.
