The Meteorology and Climatology programme provides in-depth study of atmospheric processes and the laws governing weather and climate. In the first years, students build foundations in mathematics, physics, chemistry and general geography. In later stages they study atmospheric physics, dynamic meteorology, synoptic meteorology, climatology and aerology.
Students learn to work with observation instruments, collect and analyse meteorological data, and apply statistical and programming methods. Remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) are also part of the practical skills taught.
Graduates of this programme can work in the following positions:
Graduates can work in the hydrometeorological service system of Uzbekistan, at airports and aviation organisations, in agricultural and water management institutions, and in the energy and transport sectors. Specialists are also needed by organisations engaged in environmental monitoring, research institutes and educational institutions. Projects related to climate change offer interesting opportunities for professionals in this field.
This programme suits applicants who are interested in natural phenomena, pay close attention to observation and value accuracy. An inclination toward mathematics and physics, the ability to work with data, to prepare clear reports and to work effectively in a team will be valuable. Responsibility and a patient approach to changeable weather are also important qualities.
