What is taught in this field

The Mechanical Engineering programme teaches the fundamentals of designing, manufacturing and operating machines and mechanisms. In the first years students study core subjects such as mathematics, physics, technical drawing and materials science. Later they deepen their knowledge of theoretical mechanics, strength of materials, machine parts, manufacturing processes, heat engineering and automation. Practical classes, laboratory work and skills in computer-aided design (CAD) software are an important part of training. The programme is offered at 14 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.

Who will graduates become

Graduates are prepared to work as mechanical engineers at machine-building enterprises. They may hold positions such as:

• design engineer;
• process engineer;
• production department engineer;
• technical quality control specialist;
• maintenance and service department engineer.

With experience, it is also possible to move up to the position of department head or project manager.

Where can you work

Mechanical engineers are in demand in Uzbekistan in machine building, the automotive and tractor industries, the production and repair of agricultural machinery, the oil, gas and mining sectors, energy, metallurgy and construction materials. Employers may include state-owned enterprises, joint ventures, private manufacturing companies, research institutes and design organisations. Graduates can also work in educational institutions as teachers or researchers.
