Perfumery and Cosmetic Products Technology

This program is taught at 3 higher education institutions of the republic: Bukhara State Technical University, Fergana State Technical University and Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology.

What is taught in this program

The program covers the scientific foundations of producing perfumes, eau de toilette, creams, shampoos, toothpastes and other hygiene products. Core subjects include organic chemistry, physical and colloid chemistry, fundamentals of chemical technology, the properties of raw materials and auxiliary substances (essential oils, emulsifiers, detergents and surface-active agents), and the development of cosmetic product formulations.

In practical classes, students prepare samples in laboratory conditions, learn methods for assessing product quality and get acquainted with equipment used in production processes. Quality control, standardization and environmental safety are also taught.

Who the graduate becomes

Graduates start their careers as technologists in perfumery and cosmetic products. Their professional activity includes the following positions:

• technologist or specialist in a production department;
• laboratory specialist (quality control laboratory);
• specialist in cosmetic product formulations;
• specialist responsible for monitoring the quality and safety of products.

Where graduates can work

In Uzbekistan, graduates can work at enterprises producing cosmetics and perfumery, household chemicals, and in the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in organizations supplying raw materials and in quality control laboratories. There are also opportunities to start a small business producing cosmetic products, and to work in research institutes and laboratories.
