The Theatre Studies programme introduces students to the history, theory and practice of theatre art. It is taught at the Nukus branch of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture. The core subjects include:
Students learn to analyse performances, write critical articles and take part in creative projects.
Graduates can work as specialists in theatre and culture. They may become theatre critics, research staff working with stage works, dramaturgy consultants, theatre journalists, organisers of cultural events, or teachers in educational institutions. An independent creative career is also an open path.
In Uzbekistan, the field of theatre and culture is broad. State and folk theatres, drama and musical theatres, cultural centres, museums, research institutions, publishing houses and mass media all offer opportunities for graduates. Organising festivals and cultural projects is also an important part of this field.
This programme suits applicants who are interested in theatre, want to understand stage art more deeply, and have good oral and written communication skills. Creative thinking, observation, artistic taste and the habit of independent reading will help you succeed in this field. If you enjoy thinking about stage works, analysing them and discussing them with others, Theatre Studies may be a good match for you.
