What is taught in this field

The Judo programme prepares athletes and coaches. Students learn judo techniques, including gripping, throwing, holding and defensive methods. At the same time, they train physical fitness, speed, endurance and coordination.

Theoretical subjects include sports anatomy and physiology, sports medicine, sports psychology, the theory and methodology of training, and competition rules. Students also develop teaching skills and learn to organise training sessions. During practical work, they learn first aid and safety rules.

The programme is taught at 11 higher education institutions in the republic, including the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Culture and Sports, Bukhara State University, Chirchik State Pedagogical University, Fergana State University, Jizzakh State Pedagogical University, Navoi State University, National University of Uzbekistan, and the Nukus branch of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Culture and Sports.

Who will the graduate become

Graduates can start work as judo coaches, physical education teachers or sports instructors. They lead introductory and advanced training for young athletes in schools, sports clubs and children's sports schools. They may also work as assistants to coaches at competitions.

Where you can work

In Uzbekistan, judo coaches are needed in children's and youth sports schools, general education schools, colleges and higher education institutions. Sports clubs and health and physical culture centres also employ such specialists. The field includes sports federations and organisations that run competitions at various levels.
