Russian Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov, speaking at a meeting in the State Duma, said that there is a negative attitude towards Russia in history textbooks in some CIS countries, especially during the Soviet period.
"Regarding history textbooks, when reviewing the history of a number of countries, there are certain difficulties and problems in presenting historical material without observing the principles of historicity and objectivity. This primarily concerns our common past, the period when the territories of the republics were part of the Soviet Union, which, in general, has a negative character in relation to Russia," Kravtsov said.
According to him, the Ministry of Education is working with the relevant ministers of the CIS countries to coordinate approaches to interpreting a common historical past.
He did not clarify which countries are being discussed. Kravtsov added that Russia, together with these countries, is "building a single educational, cultural, and spiritual space," as well as "building the future of the Eurasian continent, where everyone understands each other and is committed to good neighborliness."
Kravtsov is not talking about history textbooks in other countries for the first time. Earlier, he noted that "history is distorted in a number of history textbooks of a number of countries." At the same time, according to him, Russian history textbooks contain "no aggression, no spirit of hostility," only "presentation of facts, historical truth."
