The government has approved a relevant decree (No. 149, 10.03.2025) on the Regulation for Granting and Redistributing Grants to Students in Higher Education Institutions. This was reported by UzA.
According to the regulation, applicants for educational grants are required to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the current academic year. Students whose academic performance is below this threshold will not be allowed to participate in the differentiated redistribution of educational grants, and the grant position will remain vacant.
Applicants for educational grants will be able to register online on the official website of the higher education institution and upload documents supporting their achievements.
The academic performance of applicants for educational grants is assessed on an 80-point scale, which is calculated by multiplying the GPA by 16.
The social activity of applicants for educational grants is assessed on a 20-point scale, which is determined by dividing the result calculated based on the evaluation criteria by 5.
Within the established educational grant positions, priority is given to the academic performance of applicants who have shown equal results within the competitive framework. If applicants have the same academic performance, test trials are conducted for these applicants in the specialty subjects covered in the completed semesters.
The list of students receiving educational grants, based on the decision of the higher education institution's council, is published annually by August 25 on the official website of the higher education institution.
In short, starting this year, if a student on a contract-based program performs well academically, they will be transferred to a state-funded grant program, while those on grants with poor academic performance will be moved to contract-based studies.
If a grant student's GPA falls below 3.5, they will automatically be transferred to a contract-based program. However, having a GPA above 3.5 doesn't guarantee the continuation of the grant. In this case, the student must participate in the selection process annually. If many contract-based students perform well academically, even grant students with GPAs above 3.5 may end up being transferred to contract-based studies.
Any student with a GPA above 3.5 can participate in the grant selection process. In this evaluation, not only academic performance is considered, but social engagement is also taken into account.
