Information was posted on the Davletov.uz Telegram channel about dozens of buildings and structures of the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University being put up for sale.
Economist Otabek Bakirov commented on this situation on his Telegram page.
"Student dormitories are already in short supply, but the sale of dormitories is on the rise again. Honestly, it's very difficult to understand the logic in this matter. The government acknowledges the shortage of student dormitories and is building new ones, with hundreds of billions in subsidies allocated annually from the budget. The social depth of the problem is such that part of the rent is being reimbursed for students who find accommodation in the private sector due to the inability to provide them with dormitories. At the same time, the sale of dormitories, which are already in deficit, hasn't stopped," Bakirov said.
Currently, there is no precise information on how many students reside in this dormitory and where university students will be relocated after the buildings are sold.
Also, in December 2024, at a briefing held at the AIMC with the participation of Nazokat Abdukunduzova, head of the information service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, it was reported that student dormitories with 27,364 places and educational buildings with 10,500 places were created in universities across the republic. Additionally, at the briefing, it was reported that the placement of students from all levels of state higher educational institutions in dormitories has been fully digitized.
