The University is a leading higher education institution recognized as one of the national centers of legal sciences and legal education in Uzbekistan. His authority is also high outside the republic.If we look at the history of the university, it begins on April 21, 1918, when the legal department was established at the Turkestan People's University on the basis of the socio-economic faculty. This was the first step in creating a legal school in Central Asia, particularly in Uzbekistan. From 1918 to 1990, this legal school functioned as an institution under the People's Commissariat of Justice of the Uzbek SSR. 

On August 15, 1991, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR, the Tashkent State Law Institute was established on the basis of the Faculty of Law of Tashkent State University. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-1990 of June 28, 2013, the Tashkent State Law Institute was transformed into the Tashkent State Law University.Over the years, such famous lawyers as B. Manelis, M. Lutsky, S. Avrux, K. Sarimsakov, Kh. Kurbanov, N. Kapustyansky, T. Eshonbekov, D. Arrenbek, academicians S. Radjabov and Kh. Suleymanova worked in this institution.Today, the university consists of 3 academic buildings, the main academic building of which is located at 35 Sayilgoh Street. The area is 3,504,000 square meters. The building will house 5 departments, 26 lecture and seminar rooms, the rectorate, the hall of the University Council, administrative divisions of the university, as well as a legal clinic. The second academic building of the university occupies an area of 6,927,000 square meters, it houses 5 departments, 43 lecture and seminar rooms, a courtroom, and a forensic laboratory. These educational buildings are architectural monuments and were built in 1875.The third academic building of the university was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Tashkent State University in 2013 and is located at 13 Amir Temur Street on an area of 9,557,000 square meters. After the capital reconstruction, 5 departments, 21 lecture and seminar rooms, 2 computer rooms, a modern sports complex were organized in the building.

Currently, the following 4 faculties operate at Tashkent State Law University:

  • Criminal justice
  • Private law
  • Faculty of International Law and Comparative Law

The university has 19 departments, and today 279 professors and teachers work at the university. Of these, 33 hold the title of Doctor of Sciences (DSc), 82 hold the title of Candidate of Sciences, 29 hold the title of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 23 hold the title of Professor, and 42 hold the title of Associate Professor. Currently, 4.426 students are studying at the bachelor's level and 269 students at the master's level.The library of the Tashkent State University of Law holds 3,000 copies of books, including the work of the Russian professor Ivan Neyman "Early Foundations of Criminal Law" from 1814, a copy of the commentary on Muslim law by the great thinker, fiqh-Islamic jurist Burhaniddin al-Marginani "Al-Hidaya fi sharhi Bidoya al-mubtadi'" or, for short, "Kitab ul-Hidaya," copied in 1893, as well as a collection of more than 100 volumes of laws of the Russian Empire. Since 2019, the University Information Resource Centre is a member of the International Association of German University Libraries in Düsseldorf.A number of active graduates of Tashkent State Law University, such as Saida Mirziyoyeva, Khushnudbek Khudayberdiev, Haydar Pulatov, Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, Murodjon Azimov, Khadicha Sulaymonova, are today mature specialists of their profession in our society.

Within the framework of the joint educational programs of the Tashkent State Law University, an agreement was signed with the Grodno State University named after Yanka Kupala of the Republic of Belarus on the training of bachelors in the field of international private law, and with the KAZGU University named after M.S.Narikbaev of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the training of bachelors in the field of "International Economic Law."

Students studying at the bachelor's level are prepared in the following specialties.

  • State legal activity;
  • Civil law activity;
  • Criminal law activity;
  • International legal activity;
  • Entrepreneurial legal activity (business law).

The following specialists will be trained at the master's level

  • "The right to state administration";
  • "Tax and customs law";
  • "Business law";
  • "International commercial law";
  • "Contract law";
  • "Corporate Law";
  • "The right to natural resources";
  • "Labor law";
  • "Theory and practice of applying criminal legislation";
  • "Forensic Expertise and Forensics."

Young people who have become students of Tashkent State Law University hardly face the problem of a dormitory. Because the university has 3 student dormitories. Student Residence No. 1 was built in 1960 and is located at 192 Talabalar Street in Almazar district. The building consists of 4 floors, with a capacity of 292, a total of 148 rooms, and 115 living rooms.

Student dormitory No. 2 was built in 1960 and is located at 192 Talabalar Street in Almazar district. The building consists of 4 floors, with a capacity of 297, a total of 144 rooms, and 115 living rooms.

The building of Student Residence No. 3 was put into operation for university students from December 2021 and is located at 67A, Uchtepa district, 12. The building consists of 4 floors, with a total capacity of 548 rooms, 178 rooms, and 137 living rooms.

The requirements for studying in the bachelor's degree of the Tashkent State Law University, which is the leader in the republic, for the 2023-2024 academic year: 

  • 18,522,000 (eighteen million five hundred and twenty-two thousand) soums for full-time education,
  • 16,934,400 (sixteen million nine hundred thirty-four thousand four hundred) soums for the correspondence form of education,
  • the distance learning form is set at 15,288,000 (fifteen million two hundred and eighty-eight thousand) soums.

Requirements for graduate students

  • 19,698,000 (nineteen million six hundred ninety-eight thousand) soums for full-time education,
  • the distance learning form is 15,876,000 (fifteen million eight hundred seventy-six thousand) soums.
