What is taught in this field

This field focuses on the in-depth study of the art of bakhshi and dostonchi, which developed on the basis of oral folk tradition. Students learn to memorize Uzbek folk dastans, perform them, and analyze their artistic features. The field is offered by the Uzbek National Institute of Music Art and the Nukus branch of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture.

Practical classes in the core subjects cover work with folk instruments, including the dutar and the doira, voice and breathing technique, and stage performance culture. Students also receive theoretical knowledge in Uzbek folklore studies, the theory of folk music, dastan texts, and their historical and cultural roots.
