In the 2023/2024 academic year, the number of Uzbek students studying in the United States of America amounted to 1,219 people. According to the "Open Doors" report conducted by the Institute of International Education (IIE) with the support of the US State Department, this is 11.9 percent more than last year.
More than half of them, that is, 703 students (12.8 percent compared to last year) studied in bachelor's degree, 350 students (+7.4 percent) studied in master's degree. 134 students (+55.8%) completed optional practical classes, and 32 (-40.7%) were admitted to non-state educational institutions.
According to the report, in the 2023/2024 academic year, more than 1.1 million international students studied at US universities, which is 17% more than in the previous academic year.
The largest number of foreign students came from India - 331.6 thousand people (29.4 percent). They are followed by students from China (277.3 thousand, 24.6 percent) and South Korea (43.1 thousand, 3.8 percent). Canada (28.9 thousand) and Taiwan (23.1 thousand) are also among the top five.
According to the report, the majority of students received STEM education (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) - 56 percent. Mathematics and computer science remained the leading educational areas for foreigners - 280.9 thousand (25 percent) students chose them. More than 210,000 students (19.0 percent) studied engineering subjects.
The main sources of funding for foreign students were the personal/family budget (54.5 per cent), employer (21.8 per cent), and scholarships from American universities (19 per cent).
