Articles 27/06/2025 The day the first Uzbek newspaper was published

The first Jadid press organization in Turkestan - the newspaper "Taraqqiy" - began publication in Tashkent on June 27, 1906, under the editorship of Ismail Obidov. Its editorial office was located at 97 Uratepa Street.

The annual subscription price of the newspaper was 5 rubles, and one copy was sold for 50 kopecks. The newspaper was printed on four pages, including advertisements.

The slogan of the newspaper "Taraqqiy" is called "Salvation: Steadfastness in principles, Acceptance in righteousness." It is emphasized that the publication was a scientific, literary, political, scientific, and commercial newspaper.

Only 20 issues of the newspaper were published, closed by the Russian authorities, and the editor was arrested. After this, the newspaper "Khurshid" was published under the editorship of M. Abdurashidkhanov. On August 21, 1907, the newspaper "Tujjor" was published. However, all of them were suspended after the release of 5-6 issues. The newspapers have not survived.
