Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute
The Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute was established on July 16, 1937, and is a higher education institution training specialists for the pharmaceutical sector. The institute provides students with modern theoretical knowledge and practical skills, while also contributing to the scientific and practical development of the field.
History
The institute was founded by Order No. 155 of the People's Commissariat of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This event laid the foundation for training pharmaceutical specialists not only in Uzbekistan but also in some other Central Asian countries. From the first years, a higher pharmaceutical education structure and a programme for training pharmacists were developed. A scientific centre for the standardization of medicinal products was established, which works on quality control, standardization and the study of pharmacological properties of drugs. Since 1992, the institute has regularly published the journal “Farmatsevtika jurnali”.
Faculties and Programmes
The institute currently includes the following faculties: the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Industrial Pharmacy, the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining of Pharmacists, and the Faculty of International and Joint Education. The faculties train specialists at bachelor’s and master’s levels. Research-teaching staff are prepared through master’s and doctoral programmes, and a scientific council for defending PhD and doctoral dissertations has been established. Every year the institute supplies more than 300 specialists to the national economy and to the development of the pharmaceutical industry. The institute takes part in a project with the WHO European Office on reforming pharmaceutical education for Central Asian countries and cooperates with higher education institutions in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Pakistan, India and China. Students have access to the “Book-café”, a Language Centre, a training and practice complex and a new sports ground. The two student dormitories have a total capacity of 670 places, and comfortable conditions are also provided for international students.
