Samarkand State Medical University, one of the higher educational institutions in the republic that trains qualified personnel in the field of medicine, was established 95 years ago by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of Uzbekistan No. 80 of May 7, 1930, the Uzbek State Medical Institute (UzSMI) in the city of Samarkand. This was a big event for the population of the Central Asian region, since there was no independent medical higher educational institution in this region.

It has been confirmed that Samarkand State Medical University has achieved financial independence from January 1, 2022. After that, the university was given the authority to determine the costs of tuition on a paid-contract basis, allocate salaries to foreign highly qualified specialists, scholarships and grants for students at its own expense, and make independent decisions.

Samarkand State Institute was granted university status in April 2022. Currently, the university trains specialists in 10 faculties in 34 master's and 11 bachelor's programs.

These faculties operate on the basis of 86 departments. They are equipped with more than 1400 classrooms, modern computers, and about 100 multimedia classrooms. One academic lyceum, 6 technical schools, and 2 colleges operate under the jurisdiction of the Samarkand Medical University.
Samarkand State Medical University has 5 academic buildings, 5 student dormitories, 1 PPP, 2 cafes, 1 sports complex, 1 information resource center, and 2 large conference halls.

According to information provided to us by the university's press secretary Odilbek Akhmedov, today the university has 5 student dormitories (STDs) designed for 22300 places.


All conditions have been created in these student dormitories for students studying at the institute, students from India and Pakistan, and these places have been brought to the level of modern requirements.

The university has signed about 168 agreements and memorandums with foreign higher educational institutions. Currently, countries such as Austria, Malaysia, France, Georgia, Bulgaria, Japan, Kazakhstan, Italy, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Slovakia, Poland, Portugal, Tajikistan, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, the USA, Germany, India, and China regularly cooperate in various fields.
