According to Decree No. 76 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 5, 2025, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, admission to the correspondence form of education will be terminated. This means that no quota for correspondence studies will be allocated in the admission processes beginning in 1.5 months.
The end of correspondence education admissions is expected to be a serious financial blow to private universities.
Considering that the majority of them - over 70% - derive income from correspondence education, this change may lead to the following outcomes:
➖ increase in tuition fees: private higher education institutions will be forced to raise contract amounts to cover expenses and maintain their operations;
➖ decrease in student numbers: especially working individuals or youth with limited opportunities may be excluded from higher education;
➖ increased demand for evening and distance learning, as these will remain the only alternative forms of education;
➖ reorganization of higher education institutions: some private universities will be forced to change their educational formats or business models.
