Articles 08/07/2025 Is social activism more important than academic performance when distributing grants among students?

In accordance with Government Resolution No. 149 of March 10 of this year, assessment criteria for determining the social activity of applicants for educational grants in higher educational institutions are presented.

Currently, online applications are being accepted for the redistribution of scholarship places among students of higher educational institutions. Through this process, students studying on a contract basis can transfer to a grant, and those studying on a grant can enter a contract. Applications are accepted until July 20.

The assessment criteria are divided into two main areas, totaling 100 points:

academic performance - 80 points;

social activity - 20 points.

Recently, a misconception has been spreading among users that "mastering is being assessed with low scores." Because on the online application page, for example, it is indicated that 10 points are allocated for the student's academic performance, and 20 points for reading culture.

In reality, social activity is initially assessed on a 100-point scale, and then the result is divided into 5. For example, if a student's social activity is 100 points, then in total, only 20 points are added to it (100/5 = 20).

Social activity includes 11 areas, some of which also relate to the student's academic performance.

Therefore, when allocating grants, the main focus is on the student's academic performance. According to calculations, 82 percent of the total points are allocated specifically for academic performance. The remaining 18 percent points relate to areas of social activity.

Below is the distribution of scores by social activity:

Student's academic performance - 82 points

Reading Culture - 4 points

Activity in clubs within the framework of "5 Important Initiatives" - 4 points

Results in various competitions, olympiads and sports competitions - 2 points

Active participation in "Ma'rifat darslari" - 2 points

Compliance with internal regulations and the code of ethics - 1 point

Full and timely attendance at classes - 1 point

Activity in volunteering and public work - 1 point

Visits to theaters, museums, parks, cinemas, and historical sites - 1 point

Sports and a healthy lifestyle - 1 point

Other activities in the spiritual and educational sphere - 1 point
