Reposts 24/01/2025 January 24 - International Day of Education

Recognizing the importance of education for peace and development, the United Nations General Assembly declared January 24 as "International Day of Education" in its resolution of December 3, 2018. This year, the world community is celebrating the International Day of Education for the fourth time.

The significance of this date is infinite. Its celebration aims not only to recognize humanity's thirst for knowledge, but also to draw the attention of countries, governments, and societies around the world to existing problems in the field of education, including the elimination of illiteracy, the development and implementation of comprehensive educational programs in various regions.

According to the UN, today 258 million children and adolescents around the world still do not have the opportunity to attend or graduate from school. 617 million children are unaware of the elementary skills of reading and mathematics, and about four million refugee children and young people are out of school. They suffer from poverty, discrimination, armed conflicts, emergencies, and the consequences of climate change.

It should be noted that at a time when such complex problematic situations are occurring around the world, the education and upbringing of the younger generation in Uzbekistan has been elevated to the level of state policy, the issues of realizing the rights of children and young people to education and creating favorable conditions for them are being radically improved based on the idea of "New Uzbekistan begins at the threshold of school." As the head of our state noted, "we have set ourselves the great goal of laying the foundation of the Third Renaissance in our country, for which we must create the environment and conditions that will bring up new Khorezmians, Beruni, Avicenna, Ulugbek, Navoi and Babur."

To this end, in the coming years, it is planned to implement specific measures to further develop the education system in our country, expand the coverage of young people with education, and provide benefits to children from low-income families.

In particular, the draft Strategy for the Development of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 also provides for the creation of an additional 1.2 million student places in the public education system through the implementation of the national school development program, the allocation of 605 billion soums from the state budget for the updating of textbooks, the introduction of a system for providing free meals to students in grades 1-4 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region, and the introduction of a system to help students acquire at least one profession during school, the press service of the Ministry of Public Education
