Key Issues in Higher Education: Graduate Employment and Textbook Supply

The Ministry of Education and Science held a meeting to discuss the most pressing issues in higher education. The main focus was on improving teaching quality: aligning curricula with labor market demands, developing students' practical skills, and raising the qualifications of teachers.

Graduate employment

According to the data presented, 13.8 thousand graduates of state universities in 2026 are not currently employed. For this reason, participants discussed strengthening cooperation with employers and taking the needs of economic sectors into account when training specialists. Graduate employment was noted as an important criterion for assessing the effectiveness of education.

Textbook supply

Of the 29.7 thousand educational publications analyzed, 5.5 thousand were published more than 20 years ago, and some subjects have no literature at all. The meeting stressed the need to update learning materials and bring them in line with educational programs.

Student life and appeals

Particular attention was paid to handling student appeals on time and ensuring that assignments are carried out by managers. Delays in dormitory construction and shortcomings in checking conditions in rented housing were also discussed.

Instructions for rectors

Shortcomings must be eliminated within set deadlines. Rectors were instructed to organize reception hours for students and teachers within 15 days, resolve their problems on the spot, and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual work plans. A working group was also set up to assess whether managers at a number of higher education institutions are suitable for their positions.
