News 02/06/2025 Distance learning has been abolished in Uzbekistan: Minister of Higher Education commented on this matter

Starting from the new academic year of 2025, admission to the correspondence form of education in Uzbekistan has been suspended. In this regard, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov, in an interview with the "Daryo.uz" news agency, provided detailed information about the reasons for abandoning distance learning and alternative forms of education offered instead.

The main reason is the quality of education

According to the minister, the main reason was that the quality of education in distance learning was not provided at the required level. According to him, many students are unable to fully attend classes due to being employed. This seriously affects the content and quality of education.

"We cannot ensure 100% quality of education in this area. Because we know that most students are busy with work and cannot come to classes on time. "We all see this, there is no need to hide it," said Kungratbay Sharipov.

Instead, distance and extended education will be introduced

Distance learning has not been completely abolished, but alternative forms that ensure modern and high-quality education are being introduced. In particular, distance and extended education systems will be widely implemented. In distance learning, it is planned that students will attend classes daily using a computer, and the system of knowledge control will be further strengthened.

"Now young people who want to study can enter distance learning. Control is stronger - the student will have to go to class and study from their computer every day. "If someone else enters the exams or tries to use cheat sheets, the system will automatically detect this," the minister said.

Adapt to the world experience

According to Minister Sharipov, there is practically no correspondence form of education in the world. Uzbekistan, drawing on international experience, is also transitioning the education system to a credit-modular system. This will allow students to receive a more flexible, high-quality, and modern education.

"In Europe, the USA, or other developed countries, there are full-time, evening, distance, and extended forms of education. "We are following the same path," he added.

Current part-time students will continue their studies

It should be especially noted that the educational process for students currently studying in the correspondence form of education continues in the prescribed manner. They will complete their studies in their chosen fields and receive a diploma as a specialist with a full higher education.

According to official data from the Ministry, those who have received a diploma through distance learning will have equal legal force with a diploma obtained in full-time, evening, or distance learning, in accordance with the legislation of Uzbekistan.
