The Presidential Olympiad is becoming one of the most prestigious competitions for young athletes. The opening ceremony of the second Presidential Olympiad took place at the Olympic Village in Tashkent. More than 3,500 young athletes from across the country are taking part, competing in 26 Olympic and Paralympic sports. They are accompanied by about 1,500 coaches.
Starting in 2027, prize money for Presidential Olympiad winners and medalists will increase 2.5 times. First place will receive 25 million soums, second place 12 million, and third place 6 million. Winners will also be awarded a one-year stipend, although the amount has not yet been determined.
Universities also plan benefits. Graduates who win the Presidential Olympiad and set a new Uzbekistan record will be admitted to sports programs without entrance exams and on state-funded grants.
The President noted that over the past decade Uzbek athletes won 5,518 medals at major international competitions, including 1,675 gold, three times more than in the previous decade. At the XX Asian Games in Japan, the national team earned 70 medals and finished fifth overall, while at the Asian Para Games athletes won 145 medals. In September–October 2027, Uzbekistan will co-host the U-20 Football World Cup with Azerbaijan for the first time.
