Academic leave for students of higher educational institutions is a type of leave granted in certain cases. Academic leave is taken for the following reasons:

1. for military service;
2. to restore health;
3. for pregnancy and childbirth;
4. for childcare;
5. for the care of a sick family member (father, mother or persons replacing them, spouse, child).

Academic leave is granted for different periods for the above reasons.

Including:

1. for military service - for the period of military service established by law;
2. for pregnancy and childbirth, as well as childcare - for the period of maternity leave, as well as childcare leave established by legislation;
3. restoration of health and care of a sick family member - until the beginning of the incomplete semester of the following year (if, in accordance with paragraph 11 of this Regulation, the student is transferred to correspondence or distance or external education for the period of academic leave, until the beginning of the next semester). In this case, one of the specified terms is determined by the rector (director) of the higher educational institution in accordance with the student's application.

To whom to apply for academic leave:

   For academic leave, a student (if the student is unable to apply in person due to illness, their parents or their substitutes or spouses) filed an application with the rector (director) of the higher educational institution.

Documents attached to the application:

1. for military service - a summons from the relevant district (city) defense bodies to recall a student for military service;
2. for the restoration of health, pregnancy and childbirth, as well as for the care of children - the conclusion of the medical institution where the student is under constant medical supervision;
3. for the care of a sick family member - the conclusion of the medical institution where the sick family member is under constant medical supervision.

The deadline for consideration of the application:

   The student's application for academic leave is considered within a week.The granting of academic leave to a student is formalized by order of the rector (director) of the higher educational institution. This order must specify the date of the beginning and end of the academic leave.

Change academic leave to another form of study:

   According to the order of the rector (director) of the higher educational institution, at the request of students to whom academic leave is granted, their studies can be transferred to correspondence or distance or external forms of education for the period of academic leave.

   In this case, if a higher educational institution has an out-of-school or distance learning form in a specific bachelor's degree (master's degree), the student's studies will be transferred to this form of education for the specified period based on their application.

Cases of extension of academic leave:

1. 1.In the event of pregnancy and childbirth among students who are on academic leave to restore health or care for a sick family member, the term of academic leave shall be extended to the term of academic leave for pregnancy and childbirth established by this Regulation.
2. In case of non-recovery of the health of a student or a sick member of his family, at the request of the student, on the basis of an order of the rector (director) of the higher educational institution, the period of academic leave is extended to the periods established for this category of cases.

Early cancellation of academic leave:

   A student has the right to apply to a higher educational institution for the cancellation of academic leave and return to study, if less than one month has elapsed since the date of his academic leave.

The student's participation in the learning process after the academic leave ends

   Upon completion of the academic leave, the student is obliged to apply to the rector (director) of the higher educational institution to return to school.

   If a student applies to the rector (director) of a higher educational institution for returning to school after the expiration of the period set for the academic leave, it is not allowed to unreasonably reject his application. Responsibility for this situation is personally assigned to the rector (director) of the higher educational institution.

Remember: Students who return from academic leave within the prescribed period are not obliged to re-apply previously mastered subjects. A student who does not return to school after the expiration of the academic leave period and, as a result, leaves lessons for more than 74 hours during one semester without valid reasons, is expelled from a higher educational institution. (The requirements of this clause do not apply to higher educational institutions where the educational process has switched to a credit-module system.)
