The Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports is the only basic higher educational institution in our country that trains highly qualified specialists and coaches in sports.

University history
Due to the need for physical education and the need to train physical education workers from among the local population, a physical education school was opened in Tashkent in 1935. However, at that time, highly qualified specialists were trained in cities such as Moscow and Leningrad, and talented young people were forced to study in these cities. In 1949, the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute, and in 1951, the Ferghana State Pedagogical Institute established faculties for training physical education teachers with higher education. However, the fact that young men and women in society began to regularly engage in sports and health improvement has increased the need for specialists. By 1955, only 247 specialists with higher education in physical education were working in the republic's universities, schools, and sports organizations. Therefore, it was necessary to urgently solve the problem of training highly qualified sports coaches, sports judges, specialists in physical culture and production physical education, teachers of educational institutions, sports coaches, and researchers. Therefore, due to the need to improve the physical education movement, raise a new generation of qualitatively new specialists, and ensure the active participation of representatives of the local people in sports competitions, the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Culture was established on August 13, 1955, by Order No. 5972 of the Government of the former Soviet Union, and by Resolution No. 653 of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR of October 27, 1955.

2018 was a period of radical change and renewal in the history of the university.
