What is the student's daily expenses?

Student life is an unforgettable moment in life. They also describe it as the "golden age." Unfortunately, today there are those who call it an "expensive period," because many people experience financial difficulties during this time.

According to the data, one student will spend more than $56,000 to study at Harvard for one year, including housing and other expenses, amounting to 83,000 US dollars. Usually, the academic year at Harvard lasts about 9 months. There are approximately 270 days in 9 months (9 months x 30 days).

Daily expenses: $83,000 / 270 days = Approximately $307.41.

Thus, the daily cost of studying at Harvard for one student is approximately $307.41. So, what about universities in Uzbekistan?

What is the daily expenses of students of higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan?

So, what is the student's daily expenses? With this question, we conducted a survey among student youth. We also posted on our Instagram page with the question "What is the student's daily expenses?" and took into account the comments left under this post when analyzing this topic.

When we asked the students about their daily expenses, they expressed different opinions. According to them, average daily expenses can range from 20,000 to 100,000 soums or more.

For example, when we asked some students of the National University of Uzbekistan, they said that they can spend from 40,000 to 150,000, and even up to 300,000 soums a day, while some students of the Tashkent State University of Law claimed that even 500,000 soums a day is not enough. There are also opinions that some students of this university spend up to 100-300 thousand soums per day. Most of the staff at TUIT named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi said that 100,000 soums would be enough, while some said that even a million would be spent per day. The girls of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami said that they would spend from 70 to 300 thousand soums. In short, everyone is different, as they say "according to expenses," students also make "daily" expenses according to their pockets.

Where is the low-cost student?

The lowest expenses, or in modern terms, "economy class" students are some of those living in dormitories. According to them, they spend money once a month to stock up on monthly food supplies ("produxta"), obtain transportation cards, and since the place of study is close, their daily lunch is in the dormitory itself, and some even have enough for 20 thousand per day. There were even young people who expressed the opinion that "I don't travel from the apartment, we eat at home, so the fare costs 5,000 soums per day."

However, there were also students who complained about high costs. For example, one student said, "Student life is not a golden age, it's not very difficult to study. It costs 40-50 thousand a day." Some students, despite the high costs, called their student years the "golden age."

Based on the above considerations, the daily expenses of students in Tashkent are very diverse, which depends on their personal circumstances.

Daily Expenses

Higher education is an important step towards the future, but how much will this step cost financially?

The following average daily expenses:

Contract (daily): If we take the average annual contract (bachelor's degree, state university) - 15 million soums, then one day's expenses (9 months of the academic year) - approximately 55 thousand soums.

Rental (daily):

Dormitory (if possible) - 150-200 thousand soums/month (5-7 thousand soums per day).

Apartment (4 people in Tashkent) - 800 thousand - 1.2 million soums/month (27-40 thousand soums per day).

On average - 35 thousand soums (based on the apartment price).

Eating (daily):

Cooking at home (the most economical option) - 20-30 thousand soums.

Lunch outside (kitchen, fast food) - 25-40 thousand soums.

Breakfast (barrel, tea) - 10-15 thousand soums.

Dinner (at home/cafe) - 30-50 thousand soums.

Total - 75 thousand soums (on average, taking into account home and outdoor meals).

Transportation (daily):

Public transport (on card) - 1700 soums x 2 (round trip) = 3400 soums.

Taxi (average) - 15-20 thousand soums (only when necessary).

Total - 5 thousand soums (including the use of public transport).

Other expenses (daily):

Internet (mobile) - 5-10 thousand soums (with a monthly package, 3-5 thousand soums per day).

Hygiene products, notebooks, pens - 2-3 thousand soums.

Cultural recreation (cinema, cafe - at the end of the week) - 5-10 thousand soums/day (on average).

Total - 10 thousand soums.

Daily expenses

55,000 (contract) + 35,000 (rent) + 75,000 (food) + 5,000 (transport) + 10,000 (other expenses) = 180,000 soums.

Monthly expenses: 180,000 sum/day 30 days/month = 5,400,000 sum

Summary:

The daily expenses of students in Tashkent are very diverse and depend on their personal conditions, lifestyle, and financial capabilities. Surveys conducted among students showed that daily expenses can range from 20,000 to 500,000 soums and higher.

According to general calculations, the average student's daily expenses (including tuition, rent, meals, transportation, and other expenses) are approximately 180,000 soums. However, this figure may be lower for students living in dormitories and being thrifty, and higher for students living in apartments and spending more.

Of course, this cost can be significantly reduced by studying on a grant basis, receiving a scholarship, living in a dormitory, reducing food and drink, and abandoning entertainment activities. But even then, it is practically impossible to provide for one student for a month with less than 2 million soums.

For reference: Prices were formed not on the basis of statistical research, but on the basis of real-life observations and surveys. In general, it is unknown whether any official research has been conducted on this matter.
