Institute history
The main task of the institute was to train highly qualified pediatricians for the republics of Central Asia and Southern Kazakhstan. The reason for this was the large number of children in the population of the Central Asian republics, the shortage of pediatricians in the region, the high morbidity and mortality rates among children, and the shortage of leading scientists in the field of pediatrics.
The Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, considered the only one in Central Asia, was established in 1972 under the name of the Central Asian Pediatric Medical Institute during the period of the former Soviet Union. The original of the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Union on the opening of the institute reads: "On the establishment of the Central Asian Medical Pediatric Institute in Tashkent: in 1972, the Central Asian Medical Pediatric Institute was established in Tashkent on the basis of the Pediatric Faculties of the Tashkent and Andijan Medical Institutes of the Union Ministry of Health." Institut uchun, dastlab Toshkent shahridagi 5- yuqumli kasalliklar kasalxonasi, hozirgi ToshPTI yotoqxonasi va kattalar klinikasi joylashgan bino ajratildi. Initially, a building was allocated for the institute, where the 5th Infectious Diseases Hospital in Tashkent, the current dormitory of the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and the adult clinic were located. The official opening of the institute took place on September 7, 1972, and its name was changed to the Central Asian Pediatric Medical Institute - SAMPI.
The institute was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health of the former Soviet Union until 1988, when it was transferred to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan. From then on, the admission of students from neighboring republics was suspended. From April 28, 1989, the Central Asian Medical Pediatric Institute was renamed Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute (TashPMI) in accordance with Order No. 357 of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
Over the past period, the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute has trained about 30,000 doctors, including pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, and pediatric infectious disease specialists. In colloquial speech, not all of them are in a super contract, on the contrary, 1,065 graduates graduated from the institute with honors.
