The establishment of Urgench State University named after Abu Rayhan Beruni has a unique history. Looking back at its origins, on November 9, 1935, the Khorezm Teacher Training Institute was founded in the city of Urgench. From September 1, 1942, this institution began operating as the Khorezm State Pedagogical Institute.

According to the decree issued by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in February 1992, the Khorezm State Pedagogical Institute was granted university status, and Urgench State University (UrDU) was established.

Currently, Urgench State University has established student education across 11 faculties, master's programs, and correspondence departments. In total, more than a thousand professors and teachers are actively working across 41 departments.

The University offers a total of 76 bachelor's degree programs, 37 master's degree specialties, and 8 joint educational programs, with more than 30,000 students studying across the following faculties:

Urgench State University has been expanding its geographical scope of educational and scientific collaboration with foreign higher education institutions by signing agreements with over 80 prestigious universities from 30 countries. The university is actively involving professors and instructors from higher education institutions of various countries, including Russia, the USA, Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, Korea, Iran, and the Republic of Belarus, in its educational processes.

Currently, the university has 7 student dormitories with a total capacity of 3,100 beds. Each floor of the dormitory is equipped with 1 television, 4 refrigerators, 4 electric stoves, and 2 washing machines. In these dormitories, not only are accommodations provided for students, but all necessary conditions have been created to meaningfully organize their free time and to facilitate training in vocational skills and entrepreneurship.

To ensure youth employment and provide vocational training, the university has established coworking spaces, information resource centers, and craft centers.
