This higher educational institution began its activities in 1949 under the name of Tashkent Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. After that, on May 12, 1992, the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages and the Republican Institute of Russian Language and Literature were merged and received the status of the Uzbek State University of World Languages. The university has a 74-year history.    The university has a wonderful motto: "A well-spoken word sounds smart in all languages."

Today, about 24 thousand students of the university study about 20 foreign languages on the basis of world educational standards. The Uzbek State University of World Languages has 29 departments and 9 faculties, focusing on teaching philology and world languages. All faculties train philology specialists.   Currently, the university has the following faculties:

  • Translation faculty;
  • Faculty of English Philology;
  • the first English language faculty;
  • the second faculty of English;
  • Third English language faculty;
  • Faculty of Roman-German Philology;
  • Faculty of Russian Philology;
  • Faculty of Oriental Philology;
  • Faculty of Media and Communications.

Every year, the university prepares specialists with bachelor's degree in 15 areas of education and master's degree in 13 areas of education. See the directions of study at the university:

Master's degree areas:

  • foreign language and literature (English);
  • literary studies (English literature);
  • Linguistics (English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian);
  • comparative linguistics, linguistic translation studies (by languages);
  • international journalism (by type of activity);
  • journalism (sports journalism).

In doctoral studies - the institute of postgraduate education, senior research staff-seekers and independent applicants in order to prepare and defend doctoral dissertations conduct scientific research in the following areas of specialization:

  • Language theory. Applied and computer linguistics;
  • the language and literature of the peoples of Europe, America and Australia;
  • Comparative literary studies, comparative linguistics and translation studies;
  • Literature theory;
  • Journalism;
  • Theory and history of pedagogy. Management in education;
  • Theory and methodology of teaching and upbringing (by industry);
  • History of international relations and foreign policy;
  • The history of socio-political institutions and processes.
