Uzbekistan is one of the largest technical universities in Central Asia, training personnel in the fields of aviation, geology, mechanical engineering, energy, electrical engineering, and automation.

History
The "Electromechanics" department was opened within the "Technical" faculty of the Turkestan People's University, established in 1918, and was also intended to train personnel in the specialty of mechanical engineers. In 1920, when the faculty gained the status of a state university, the "Special Mechanics" department was established, and 69 students began studying there. Tashkent Technical University was established by the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated April 30, 1991, by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated May 13, 1991, No. 130, on the basis of the merger of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute and the Tashkent Machine-Building Institute. On June 27, 1991, the university was named after Abu Rayhan Beruni.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev of January 25, 2017, on June 23, 2017, the Tashkent State Technical University was named after Islam Karimov.

Currently, 8 faculties, 58 departments, 735 professors and teachers, more than 11 thousand students are studying at Tashkent State Technical University. The university also has 5 specialized councils, which defend doctoral dissertations in 12 different areas. The university has modern academic buildings, teaching and research laboratories, hostels, a strong experimental base, as well as a network of pre-university preparatory and postgraduate education.
