Namangan State University was established in 1941 as a pedagogical institute and attained university status in 1942. This university is considered one of the best higher education institutions in Uzbekistan, with high potential, focused on utilizing the most advanced technologies in training personnel. Namangan State University has been included in the list of higher education institutions granted financial independence in accordance with the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-61 "On Measures to Grant Financial Independence to State Higher Educational Institutions" issued in 2021.

The university has 243 classrooms, 8 academic buildings, 1 assembly hall, 5 gyms, 2 outdoor sports facilities, 4 canteens, and 4 student dormitories accommodating 1594 residents.

The university's main staff consists of 735 professors and teachers (of whom 255, or 35 percent, are women), with 246 of them holding academic degrees and titles. Among these, 27 are Doctors of Science (including DSc) and professors, while 219 are Candidates of Science (including PhD) and associate professors.
