It is a higher educational institution that trains highly qualified engineers, economists and engineers-pedagogues, bachelors and specialists for economics, agriculture, oil and gas industry, electrical and thermal energy, food industry, chemical technology and other sectors of the national economy, as well as the field of education.
The institute was first established in 1975 and was called the Karshi branch of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 356 of February 28, 1992, the Karshi Agricultural and Economic Institute was established on the basis of the Karshi branch of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers. Based on the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 3, 1995, No. 211, the Karshi Engineering and Economic Institute was established on the basis of the Karshi Agrarian and Economic Institute and the Karshi branch of the Tashkent State Technical University.

Currently, the institute has 6 faculties.
7,738 bachelors are studying in 29 educational areas, more than 264 masters in 17 specialties, and 1,163 undergraduate students. More than 571 professors and teachers teach young people. Of these, 18 are doctors and professors, 120 are candidates and associate professors.

The institute conducts research in the fields of mechanization of agricultural production, national economy, agronomy, oil and gas business, electronic technology. The institute has a boarding school, academic lyceum, business schools, a department for advanced training of specialists, centers "Working with gifted students," "Information technologies and distance learning," and a small printing house.
The institute has 31 departments, the library has more than 230 thousand books. Since the establishment of the institute, more than 18 thousand highly qualified specialists and bachelors have been trained.

The Karshi Engineering and Economics Institute has 5 student dormitories, where 905 students live today.
The number of students requiring technical training is 1,400 people.

Currently, Karshi Engineering and Economic Institute has signed agreements and exchange memorandums with more than 110 foreign educational institutions in the field of education and research, and actively works with them. The institute cooperates with higher educational institutions of Russia, the USA, Germany, Turkey, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Poland and other countries. In particular; Belarusian State Technical University, La Laguna University in Spain, and others. The institute has a student recreation center, a health center, and a sports palace.
