In 1958, the correspondence faculty of general mechanics of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute was established in Bukhara city. In 1972, a branch of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute was founded based on this faculty. From 1977, the Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology began operating as an independent educational institution.
Based on the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-1533 dated May 20, 2011, the Bukhara Engineering and Technical Institute of High Technologies was established on the foundation of the Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology. Two years later, in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-1954 dated April 15, 2013, the Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology was established.
The total area of the institute is 25 square meters. It includes 4 academic buildings, 2 student dormitories, a modern sports hall, and an academic lyceum.
14,007 students are pursuing their bachelor's and master's degrees at the institute. The institute employs 613 professors and teachers, of whom 12 are Doctors of Science and professors, 117 are Candidates of Science and associate professors, and 5 are Doctors of Philosophy (PhD). The scientific potential of the teaching staff is 31.0 percent.

The Bukhara Engineering and Technological Institute has 3 student dormitories, including 330 students in dormitory No. 1, 260 students in dormitory No. 2, and 750 students in dormitory No. 3. Places have been allocated in the dormitory for 1340 students. In order to enhance the spiritual world of students through the formation of a culture of reading, modern information and resource centers have been established in all educational buildings and student dormitories of the institute.
