Karakalpak State University, officially known as Berdakh Karakalpak State University (in Karakalpak: Berdaq atındaǵı Qaraqalpaq mámleketlik universiteti) - the largest higher education institution in Karakalpakstan. It prepares scientific and pedagogical personnel.

The university was established in 1976 in the city of Nukus on the foundation of the Karakalpak Pedagogical Institute (founded in 1934). Later, by Resolution No. 274 of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan dated January 15, 1992, the institution was renamed Berdakh Karakalpak State University. The university comprises 17 faculties, 49 departments, and more than 30 educational and scientific laboratories.

Today, 1,072 professors and teachers are providing education to 27,330 students. The university features a sanatorium-preventorium, the "Umid" sports and health recreation camp, an educational and practical base, 26 computer classrooms, the Berdakh National Museum, museums of archaeology, botany and zoology, a Palace of Culture, a tennis court sports complex, an amphitheater, the "Xurlimon" ensemble, a theater studio, a business school, 3 academic lyceums, and a legal clinic. The main library of the university houses over 470,000 works.

The university offers bachelor's degrees in 36 fields of study and master's programs in 26 specializations. Currently, the following faculties are operating at the university:

• Faculty of Mathematics;
• Faculty of Law;
• Faculty of Physical Education;
• Faculty of Karakalpak Philology and Journalism;
• Faculty of Art Studies;
• Faculty of Architecture;
• Faculty of Economics;
• Faculty of Biology;
• Faculty of Physics;
• Faculty of Uzbek Philology;
• Faculty of Industrial Technology;
• Faculty of Foreign Languages;
• Chimbay Faculty;
• Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources;
• Faculty of Chemical Technology.

The university collaborates with prestigious universities, institutes, and international organizations from several foreign countries.

The university publishes the "Karakalpak University" newspaper. The university has its own small printing house, where scientific works and educational-methodological literature by professors and teachers are printed.
